17. رسولُ اللهِِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): خَيرُ العِيادَةِ أخَفُّها .
17– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘The best kind of visit [of the sick] is the briefest one.’[Kanz al-`Ummal, no. 25139]
18. رسولُ اللهِ (صَلَّيَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ وَ آلِهِ): عُودوا المَريضَ واتبَعوا الجَنازَةَ يُذَكِّرْكُم الآخِرَةَ.
18– The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘Visit the sick and follow funeral processions, they will remind you of the Hereafter.’[Kanz al-`Ummal, no. 25143]
19. الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): إنّ مِن أعظَمِ العُوّادِ أجراً عندَ اللّهِ عَزَّوجلَّ لَمَن إذا عادَ أخاهُ خَفَّفَ الجُلوسَ، إلّا أن يَكونَ المَريضُ يُحِبُّ ذلكَ ويُريدُهُ ويَسألُهُ ذلكَ.
19– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘The visitor with the greatest reward with Allah is he who when he visits he sits briefly, unless the sick person likes the company and wants and asks for [him to sit longer].’[al-Kafi, v. 3, p. 118, no. 6]
20. الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): العِيادَةُ قَدرُ فُواقِ ناقَةٍ أو حَلبِ ناقَةٍ .
20– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘Visiting should be the length of time it takes to milk a camel.’[al-Kafi, v. 3, p. 118, no. 2]
21. الإمامُ الصّادقُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): تَمامُ العِيادَةِ للمَريضِ أن تَضَعَ يَدَكَ على ذِراعِهِ وتُعَجِّلَ القِيامَ مِن عِندِهِ ؛ فإنَّ عِيادَةَ النَّوكى أشَدُّ علَى المَريضِ مِن وَجَعِهِ .
21– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘The complete visit of the sick should be just long enough for you to put your hand on his arm, and hasten to leave from him, for the visit of the foolish is harder for the sick person to bear than his pain.’[al-Kafi, v. 3, p. 118, no. 4]
22. عن مولىً لجعفرِ بنِ محمّدٍ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): مَرِضَ بعضُ مَواليهِ فخَرَجنا إلَيهِ نَعودُهُ ونَحنُ عِدَّةٌ مِن مَوالي جعفرٍ، فاستَقبَلَنا جعفرٌ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) في بعضِ الطّريقِ، فقالَ لنا: أينَ تُريدونَ ؟ فَقُلنا: نُريدُ فُلانا نَعودُهُ، فقالَ لَنا: قِفوا، فوَقَفنا، فقالَ: مَع أحَدِكُم تُفّاحَةٌ، أو سَفَرجَلَةٌ، أو اُترُجَّةٌ، أو لَعقَةٌ مِن طِيبٍ، أو قِطعَةٌ مِن عُودِ بَخورٍ ؟ فقُلنا: ما مَعنا شيءٌ مِن هذا، فقالَ: أما تَعلَمونَ أنَّ المَريضَ يَستَريحُ إلى كُلِّ ما اُدخِلَ بهِ علَيهِ؟ !
22– A protégé of Imam al-Sadiq (AS) narrated, ‘One of his protégés became sick so we went to visit him as a group of the protégés of Ja`afar. We met Ja`afar (AS) on the way, and he asked, ‘Where are you going?’ We replied, ‘We are going to so and so to visit him.’ He said, 'Stop', so we stopped, and he asked, ‘Does any of you have an apple or a quince, or a citron, or some perfume or a piece of sandalwood?!’ We said, ‘No, we do no have any of these?’ He said, ‘Do you not know that the sick man is comforted by anything that is brought for him.’[al-Kafi, v. 3, p. 118, no. 3]
