Miracles of Imam Rida (pbuh)

Ali Bin Mohammad Al-Qasani said:" One of my companions told me that some money with great value was taken to Abu Al-Hasan Al-Rida (pbuh) yet he didn't see him (pbuh) happy with it. He said:" I got distressed because of that and said to myself:' I have taken this money to him (pbuh) yet he wasn't gladdened by it!' Thus, he (pbuh) said:" O servant, bring me the bowl and water." He (pbuh) sat on a chair and said to the servant:" Pour the water on my hands." So, gold began to slide from between his fingers into the bowl!! Then, he turned to me and said:" He who is like this does not care for what you have brought him."" [1]

Maabad Bin Janid Al-Shami said:" I entered to the house of Ali Bin Mousa Al-Rida (pbuh) and said to him:" Many have talked about you and your wonders, so if you will, can you tell me a matter to report about you?" Thus, he said:" What matter do you want?" I said:" Resurrecting my father and mother." He said:" Return to your home for I have resurrected them for you." So, I left and I swear to Allah that they were at home alive; they stayed at my home for ten days and then Allah Almighty and the Most High took their lives back."[2]

Hasan Bin Ali Al-Washaa Al-Koufi said:” I wrote some questions for Ali Bin Mousa Al-Rida (pbuh) to test Him, so I went to his house but I couldn’t reach him because of the crowds of people and then a servant came and asked the people about me, saying:” Who is Al-Hussein Bin Ali Al-Washaa Ibin Bint Ilias Al-Baghdadi? I said:” O servant! It’s me.” Thus, he gave me a letter and said to me:” These are the answers of the questions that you have. Therefore, I was certain that he is the Imam and I defected from the cult of Al- Waqf.”[3]

Ibn Abi Al-Katheer said:” When Imam Mousa (pbuh) passed away, People were confused about the matter of Imam Al-Rida (pbuh).
I went to pilgrimage that year, I saw Al-Rida (pbuh) so I said to myself:{Should we follow a human like us!…}
Thus Imam Al-Rida (pbuh) passed like a brisk lightening and said:”By Allah, I am the human who you should follow.”
So I said:”I ask Allah and You to pardon me!”
He (pbuh) said:” I forgive you.”[4]

Reported from Mohammad bin Ali that he said : one of the companions of Imam Rida (pbuh) got sick and so Imam (pbuh) visited him and said: “How are you?” Man said: “ I beheld death” and here the man wanted to show how severe is the disease that he is suffering. Imam (pbuh): And how was it? Man: “Extreme pain.” Imam (pbuh): “you saw nothing, it is that you felt and saw few things of death.
There are two kinds of men, a man who rests when meeting death, and a man whom people rest when he dies. So renew your faith in Allah and Wilaya and you will rest.” And so the man did, then he said: O son of the Messenger of Allah, these are the angels of my Lord coming with and saluting me. And they are standing before you asking you permission to sit.
Imam Rida (pbuh) said: “O angels of my Lord, sit.” Then Imam (pbuh) told the patient: ask them if they were ordered to stand in my presence?” Man said: “I asked them and they said that if all what Allah had created of angels came, they would stand in your presence and never sit until you give them permission to do so. This is what Allah had ordered them.
Then the man closed his eyes and said: “Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah. I can see you now along with Mohammad and the Imams (pbut).” And then he passed away.[5]

Abu Al-Salt Al-Harawi said:" Al-Rida (pbuh) used to talk to people in their languages and I swear to Allah that he was the most eloquent of all people and the most knowledgeable of their languages. I told him on day:" O son of the Messenger of Allah! I am astonished at the fact that you know all these languages despite the dissimilarity between them!" He (pbuh) said:" O Abu Al-Salt! I am the Argument of Allah over His creations and Allah would not have chosen an argument over people without knowing their languages. Haven't you heard the saying of Ameer Al-Mo;mineen (pbuh):" We were given the knowledge of separating speech!" Isn't the separation of speech nothing but knowing languages. [6]

Ibrahim Bin Mousa said:" I insisted on Abu Al-Hasan Al-Rida (pbuh) to grant me something that I had asked from him and he had gave me a promise so he went one day to welcome the leader (Wali) of Al-Madina and I was with him. Thus, he went near someone's palace. He went under some trees and I went with him and there was no third party with us, so I said to him:" May my soul be sacrificed for you! The holiday (Eid) has come and I swear to Allah that I do not have even one Dirham." Hence, he (pbuh) intensely scratched the ground with his stick and then struck it by his hand, grabbed a block of gold from it and said:" Seek benefit from it and do not speak of what you have seen." [7]

Abu Isma'il Al-Sindi said:" I heard in Al-Sind (Indus) that Allah has an argument among the Arabs so I left from there, seeking him. I was led to Al-Rida (pbuh) so I headed for him and met him without knowing any Arabic word. I greeted him in Al-Sindi language so he answered me in my language. Thus, I started to talk with him in Al-Sindi language and he answered me in the same language, so I said to him:" I heard that Allah has an argument amongst the Arabs so I left seeking him." He (pbuh) said in my language:" Yes, I am him," and then he said:" Ask me whatever you want." Hence, I asked him what I wanted and when I wanted to leave, I said:" I do not speak any Arabic. Plead Allah to grant me this language by inspiration so that I could talk by it to its speakers. Therefore, he (pbuh) wiped his hand over my lips, thus I immediately talked Arabic."[8]

Abdellah Bin Souqa said:" Imam Al-Rida (pbuh) once passed by us, so we argued about his Imama (Divine Leadership) and when he left, I and Tamim Bin Yaaqoub Al-Seraj who are from Al-Barqa left opposing him and believing in Al-Zaydiya cult and then when we reached the desert, we saw deer. Thus, Abu Al-Hasan Al-Rida (pbuh) gestured for a fawn (young deer), thus he came and stood in front of him (pbuh). Abu Al-Hasan (pbuh) began to tap on his head and pushed him to his servant, so the fawn became upset and wanted to return to his pasture, so Imam Al-Rida (pbuh) spoke to him with words we do not understand and thus he calmed down. Then, he (pbuh) said:" O Abdellah! Don't you believe now?" I said:" Yes, I do, O Master! You are the Argument of Allah over His creations and I repent to Allah." Then he (pbuh) said to the deer:" Go to your pasture." Thus, the deer came to Abu Al-Hasan (pbuh) with watery eyes, wiped himself to the Imam (pbuh) and grunted. Abu Al-Hasan (pbuh) said:" Do you know what he is saying?" We said:" Allah, His prophet and the son of His prophet are more knowledgeable!" He (pbuh) said:" He is saying:' you called me so I hoped you would have eaten from my flesh so I answered you and I got sad when you ordered me to leave.'" [9]
