Humor, Joking and Laughter

Al-Amali- Sheikh Al-Sadouq p.344:

Imam Al-Sadiq (pbuh) reported from his father from his forefathers (pbut) that the Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) said: "Excessive joking makes a man lose face, excessive laughing erases faith and excessive lying drives away beauty."

Qorb Al-Isnad- Al-Humairi Al-Qommi p.69:

Mas'ada Bin Sadaka said: "Jaafar Bin Mohammad (pbuh) informed me that his father (pbuh) said that Dawoud said to Suleiman (pbut): "O son, beware of excessive laughter, for excessive laughter renders a servant negligible on the Day of Resurrection."

Wasa'el Al-Shia- Al-Hor Al-Ameli vol.8 p.482:

Imam Abou Abdellah (pbuh) reported from his forefathers (pbut) from Ali (pbuh) that he said: "The Prophet's (pbuhp) laughter was smiling. One day, he passed by a group of Advocates (Al-Ansar) who were talking and laughing as hard as they can, so he said: "Silence. O you, if you were deceived by having hope in long lives and doing less goodness, then visit the graves, know that all shall resurrect and remember death, the killer of all lusts."

Al-Sara'er- Ibin Idrees Al-Helli vol.3 p.579:

Al-Fadl Bin Abi Qurra Al-Koufi reported: "Abou Abdellah Al-Sadiq (pbuh) said: "There is not a believer who does not have a sense of humor in him." I said: "And what is humor?" He (pbuh) said: "Joking."

Al-Sara'er- Ibin Idrees Al-Helli vol.3 p.637:

Hemran Bin A'yon said: "I came to Abou Jaafar (pbuh) and so I said to him: "Advise me." Thus he said: "I advise you to reverence Allah and beware of joking, for it makes a man lose his awe and honor. You must pray for your brethren in secrecy, for it pours sustenance out," and he repeated it trice.""

Nahj Al-Balagha- Imam Ali's (pbuh) sermons vol.4 p.104:

He (pbuh) said: "Whenever a man utters a joke, a fragment of his mind will be spat out."
