Chastity and Shyness

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Zurara from Imam Abou Jaa’far (Pbuh) that he said: “There is no way of worshiping Allah better than chastity of stomach and genitals.” [1]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Abdellah bin Maimoun Al-Qaddah from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said that Ameer Elmo’mineen (Pbuh) used to say: “The best worship is chastity.” [2]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Al-Sukuni from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said that the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: “The two matters that drive my nation to hell the most are the two insides: Stomach and genitals.” [3]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Obeidellah bin Ziad from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “be righteous to your parents so that your children become righteous to you and avoid the women of people so that you women are avoided.” [4]

 

* Al-Humairi Al-Qummi states in Qurb Al-Isnad Book: Reported from Abdellah bin Maimoun from Imam Jaa’far Al-Sadiq (Pbuh) that he said: “The Messenger of Allah (Pbuh) said: “ Be truly shy before Allah.” They said: “What we must do O Messenger of Allah?” He (Pbuh) said: “you must always see your death before your eyes. You must safeguard the mind and what it is aware of and the inner-side and what it contains. You must always remember the graves and the afflictions. He who seeks the Hereafter should abandon the ornaments of Donia.” [5]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Sadouq states in Al-Khisal Book: Reported from Zaid bin Ali from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “The Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: “He earns heaven he who is free from four traits: being occupied in Donia, following caprice and desires of stomach and genitals.” [6]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Houwaizi states in Tafseer Nour Al-Thaqalain Book: Reported from Abou Al-Jaroud from Imam Abou Jaa’far (Pbuh) that he explained { We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover your shame and feathers} and said: “raiment are the clothes that you wear and the feathers are the joys and money. As for the garment of piousness, it is chastity. The shame of the chaste one doesn’t appear even if he was naked. Yet the shame of the obscene is always seen even if he was covered with clothes. Allah says: {The garment of piousness is good} Chastity is the best of that from the signs of Allah for you might remember.” [7]

 

* Al-Hussein bin Saeed Al-Kufi states in Kitab Al-Zohod Book: Reported from Hamza bin Himran from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “An Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) and said to him: “advise me.” He (Pbuhp) said: “I advise you to protect what is between your legs.”

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Ahmad bin Mohammad bin Khalid from his companions from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: “You have to be chaste and avoid obscenity.”“ [8]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Al-Asbagh bin Nabata from Ameer Elmo’mineen (Pbuh) that he said: “Allah created desire and made it into ten parts. He places nine parts in women and one part in men. If Allah hadn’t given them shyness in the same number of desire, everyman would have had nine women attached to him.” [9]

 

* Al-Hor Al-Amili states in Wasa’el Al-Shia Book: Reported from Abou Baseer from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “The best of your women is the one undresses shyness when she undresses for her husband and wears shyness back when she wears her clothes.” [10]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Al-Fadeel bin Yasar that he asked Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh): {they don’t show their ornaments but to their husbands} are the arms of women ornaments?” He (Pbuh) said: “Yes, what is other than the face veil and what is behind the wrist.” [11]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Abou Obeida Al-Hathaa’ from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “Shyness is from faith and faith is in heaven.” [12]

 

* Al-Mirza Al-Nouri states in Moustadrak Al-Wasa’el Book: Abou Al-Qasim Al-Koufi wrote in Al-Akhlaq Book that once the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) saw a man washing in a place where people can see him. So he said: “Shyness is the ornaments of Islam.” [13]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Toussi states in Al-Amali Book: Reported from Abou Thar from the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) that he said: “O Abou Thar, do you like to go to heaven? He said: “Yes, may my father be sacrificed for your sake.” He (Pbuhp) said: “So shorten hope, always have death before your eyes and be truly shy before Allah.” He said: “O Messenger of Allah, all of us are shy before Allah” He (Pbuhp) said: “Not that shyness. Shyness before Allah is in not forgetting graves and afflictions, the inner-side and what it contains, and the head and what it is aware of. He who wants a generous honorable reward must abandon the ornaments of Donia. When you are like, you are truly loyal to Allah.” [14]

 

* Ahmad bin Mohammad bin Khalid Al-Barqi states in Al-Mahasin Book: Reported from Madrak bin Abdel-Rahman from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said that the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: “Islam is naked and shyness it its clothes. Its ornaments is loyalty, its magnanimity is righteous acts, its pillar is fear. Every matter has a base and the base of Islam is loving us Ahlul-Bayt.” [15]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Al-Fadel bin Katheer from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “He has no faith he who has no shyness.” [16]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Ahmad bin Abi Abdellah from his companions from the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) that he said: “there are two kinds of shyness. The shyness of Mind and the shyness of foolishness. The shyness of mind is knowledge and the shyness of foolishness is ignorance.” [17]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Ali bin Abi Ali Al-Lahibi from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said that the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: “Allah changes the sins to righteous deeds of one if he has four traits: Honesty, shyness, righteous morals, and gratitude. Even if he was filled from top to bottom with sins.” [18]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Jaber bin Yazeed Al-Joafi from Imam Abou Jaa’far (Pbuh) that he said: “The shame of he whose clothes are shyness is never apparent to people.” [19]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Moufeed states in Al-Amali Book: Reported from Anas bin Malik from the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) that he said: “obscenity shames every matter that is in it and shyness ornaments every matter that is in it.” [20]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Tabrasi states in Makarim Al-Akhlaq Book: Reported from Abou Saeed Al-Khidri that he said: “The Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) was very shy. He gives whatever he is asked.” [21]

 

* Al-Sheikh Al-Tabrasi states in Makarim Al-Akhlaq Book: Reported from Abou Saeed Al-Khidri that he said: “The Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) was more shy than the virgin. If he hated a matter, we directly knew it from his face.” [22]

 

* Nahej Al-Balagha Book: Ameer Elmo’mineen (Pbuh) said to his son Al-Hassan Bin Ali (Pbuh): “Shyness is the cause leading to every beauty.”
