Cleanliness, nail clipping, hair brushing and shaving

Al-Khisal- Sheikh Al-Sadouq p.271:

Al-Hassan Bin Al-Jahm said: "Abou Al-Hassan Moussa Bin Jaafar (pbut) said: "Five traditions are performed on the head and five on the body. Those performed on the head are using Miswak, mustache trimming, hair parting, mouth rinsing and water sniffing. As for those performed on the body, they are circumcision, pubic hair shaving, armpit epilation, nail clipping and cleansing from filthiness (Najasa)."

 

Al-Kafi- Sheikh Al-Koleini vol.6 p.492:

Abou Abdellah (pbuh) said: "The revelation was held back from the Prophet (pbuhp), so he was told: "The revelation was held back from you?" Thus, he (pbuhp) said: "How can it not be when you do not clip your nails and clean between your finger nodes.

 

Bihar Al-Anwar- Al-Allama Al-Majlisi vol.37 p.84:

The Prince of Believers (pbuh) said: "Washing the head washes off filth and purifies the eyes from motes." He (pbuh) also said: "Washing clothes washes away sadness and troubles and it is purification for prayer." He (pbuh) said as well: "Cleanse yourselves with water from bad odors that discharge and take care of your hygiene, for Allah detests His filthy servants who make other close their noses when sitting beside them," and he (pbuh) also said: "Let water be a perfume."

 

Man La Yahdoroh Al-Fakih- Sheikh Al-Sadouq vol.1 p.53:

Abou Jaafar (pbuh) said: "(…) and he who has long hair should part it, for if he did not, Allah shall part him with a saw of fire on the Day of Resurrection."

 

Ilal Al-Shara'e'- Sheikh Al-Sadouq vol.2 p.519:

Ismail Bin Muslim reported from Jaafar Bin Mohammad (pbuh) from his father from his forefathers (pbut) that he said: "The Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) said: "Let neither your mustache, nor pubic hair and armpit hair grow long, for the Devil takes it as a refuge."

 

Wasa'el Al-Shia- Al-Hor Al-Ameli vol.1 p.392:

Mas'ada Bin Sadaqa reported from Jaafar Bin Mohammad (pbuh) from his forefathers (pbut) from the Prophet (pbuhp) that he said: "He who believes in Allah and the Last Day must not stop shaving his pubic hair for over forty days and if he did, he should shave it after the fortieth day and should not postpone it."

 

Qorb Al-Isnad- Al-Humairi Al-Qommi p.67:

Mas'ada Bin Sadaqa reported from Jaafar Bin Mohammad (pbuh) from his forefathers (pbut) that the Prophet (pbuhp) said: "One must trim his mustache and his nose hair. One must take care of himself as well, for that enhances his beauty."

 

Al-Kafi- Sheikh Al-Koleini vol.3 p.418:

Abou Abdellah Al-Sadiq (pbuh) said: "Trimming the mustache and nails every Friday is a protection from leprosy."

 

Thawab Al-A'mal- Sheikh Al-Sadouq p.24:

Abou Kahmas said: "I said to Abou Abdellah (pbuh): "Teach me a Dua that makes sustenance descend." Thus, he said to me: "Trim your mustache and nails and let it be on a Friday.""

 

Makarem Al-Akhlaq- Sheikh Al-Tabarsi p.71:

Yazid Bin Muslim reported that Abou Abdellah (pbuh) said: "Combing annuls poverty and drives away illness."

 

Wasa'el Al-Shia- Al-Hor Al-Ameli vol.1 p.429:

Abou Al-Hassan Moussa (pbuh) said: "Comb not when standing, for it makes one inherit heart weakness. Comb while sitting, for it strengthens the heart and

 

Makarem Al-Akhlaq- Sheikh Al-Tabarsi p.72:

Imam Al-Sadiq (pbuh) said: "Combing your hair hinderssputum. Combing your eyebrows protects from leprosy and combing your cheeks tightens your grinders."

 

Wasa'el Al-Shia- Al-Hor Al-Ameli vol.1 p.426:

Abou Baseer said: "I asked Abou Abdellah (pbuh) about His saying: {wear your adornment at every time and place of prayer.} He (pbuh) said: "It is combing at every time of obligatory and supererogatory prayer.""

 

Al-Khisal- Sheikh Al-Sadouq p.251:

Abdellah Bin Al-Hussein Bin Zaid Bin Ali Bin Al-Hussein Bin Ali Bin Abi Taleb reported from his father from his forefathers from Ali (pbuh) that he said: "The Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) ordered us to bury four things: Hair, teeth, nails and blood."
