Interest

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Ibrahim bin Amr Al-Yamani from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “There are two kinds of Riba (Interest). One that can be used and the other can’t be used. The one that can be used is when you give a gift to a man seeking to receive a better reward from him. This is the interest that Allah said about it{ That which you lay out for increase through the property of (other) people, will have no increase with Allah.} As for the interest that can’t be used, it is the interest that Allah prohibited and promised Hell as a punishment for it.” [1]

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Soma’a that he said to Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh): “I saw that Allah mentioned interest in many verses.” Imam said: “Do you know why?” He said: “No.” Imam (Pbuh): “So that people don’t stop doing righteous deeds.” [2]

* Al-Hor Al-Amili states in Wasa’el Al-Shia Book: Reported from Sa’ed bin Tareef from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “The wickedest profit is interest.” [3]

* Al-Mirza Al-Nouri states in Moustadrak Al-Wasa’el Book: Ali bin Ibrahim states in his Tafseer Book: Imam Sadiq (Pbuh) was asked about {Allah will annul interest from all blessing, but will give increase for deeds of charity} One said: “Yet we see the man growing and his money increasing?!” Imam (Pbuh) said: “Allah annuls his faith even if his money is plenty.” [4]

* Al-Mirza Al-Nouri states in Moustadrak Al-Wasa’el Book: Al-Qotob Al-Rawandi states in Lub Al-Albab Book: The Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: “Allah damns who consumes the money of interest, who witnesses interest and who writes it if they had knowledge.” [5]

* Al-Sheikh Al-Sadouq states in Ilal Al-Sharai Book: Reported from Zurara from Imam Abou Jaa’far (Pbuh) that he said: “Allah forbade Interest so that people don’t stop doing favors.” [6]

* Al-Sheikh Al-Sadouq states in Ilal Al-Sharai Book: Reported from Mohammad bin Sanan from Imam Ali Bin Moussa Al-Rida (Pbuh) that he wrote answers for the questions about the cause of forbidding interest. Imam (Pbuh) wrote: “Allah forbade Interest because it corrupts money. If one bought one dirham and paid two dirhams for it. The price of the dirham is one dirham and so the other dirham is a false profit...” [7]

* Al-Sheikh Al-Sadouq states in Thawab Al-A’mal Book: Reported from Abdellah bin Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) gave a lecture to them and said: “… Allah forbade whine and every drink that contains intoxicants. Allah fills the inside of he who consumes the money of interest with the fire of hell as much as he consumes. If one gained money from interest, Allah doesn’t accept from him any deed and he will remain under the curse of Allah and angels as long as he has one dirham of it.” [8]

* Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Qummi states in his Tafseer Book: Reported from Hisham from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said that the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: “When I ascended to the sky, I saw people who can’t stand because their abdomens were huge. I asked Jibraeel about who they are. He said: “They are people who used to consume interest. They can’t stand as if they were beaten by demons.” [9]

* Al-Hor Al-Amili states in Wasa’el Al-Shia Book: Reported from Hisham from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “When Allah wants to doom a nation, He spreads interest among them.” [10]

* Al-Hor Al-Amili states in Wasa’el Al-Shia Book: Reported from Al-Asbagh bin Nabata that he heard Ameer Elmo’mineen (Pbuh) say: “You traders, Fokoh is before trading. Fokoh is before trading. Fokoh is before trading. Interest in this nation is unseen as the sound of ants walking on Al-Safa mountain is unheard.” [11]

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Reported from Soma’a from Abou Baseer that he said: “What is the punishment of he who consumes the money of interest?” Imam said: “He is disciplined. If he does it another time, he is disciplined and if he does it for the third time he must be killed.” [12]
