As we talking, we argued and I spoke to her in a rough way. The second day, I prayed noon prayer and headed towards the house of Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh). When I came in, he directly said to me: “What is the matter between you and your mother? Why did you speak to her in a rough way?” Don’t you know that her womb was a home that you dwelled, her lap was a bed that you slept it and her breasts are where you fed from?” I said: “Yes.” The Imam (Pbuh) said: “So, don’t speak to her in a rough way.”“ [2]

Pride is only for Allah the Lord of all realms.” [4]

Being Good to Parents

* Al-Sheikh Al-Sadouq states in Al-Amali Book: Dawood bin Khather Al-Riqqi reported from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “He who likes Allah to reduce the hardness of death for him, should always visit his relatives and righteous to his parents. * Al-Sheikh Al-Toussi states in Al-Amali Book: Ibn Abbas reported from the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) that he said: “Every righteous child to his parents who looks at them a merciful look earns an accepted pilgrimage for every look.” One said: “Even if he looked at them one hundred times every day?” He (Pbuhp) said: “Indeed, Allah is more generous and kind”.”[13]

* Al-Sheikh Al-Sadouq states in Man La Yahdurohu Al-Faqeeh Book: Abou Walad Al-Hannat asked Imam Jaa’far Bin Mohammad Al-Sadiq (Pbuh) about this saying of Allah {be good to your parents} what is this good?” The Imam (Pbuh) said: “it is by having good company with them. You should not make them ask for what they need from you even if they were self-sufficient. Allah says {You will not earn righteousness unless you spend from what you love}. Then the Imam said { Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt} Even if they disturb you {nor repel them} if they hit you {but address them in terms of honor}. These terms of honor you say to them: “May Allah forgive you.” {And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility} It is not staring at them and only looking at them with mercy and compassion, not raising your voice in front of them, not putting your hands above theirs and not walking in front of them.” [14]

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Mo’alla bin Kuneith reported from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “A man came and asked the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) about righteousness to parents. * Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Mohammad bin Marwan reported from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “what prevents you from being righteous to your parents when alive or dead, praying, giving charity, going to pilgrimage, and fasting on their behalf. * Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Moammar bin Khalad reported that he asked Imam Abou Al-Hassan Al-Rida (Pbuh): “Can I pray for my parents even if they don’t know the right and truth?” Imam Rida (Pbuh) said: “Pray for them and give charity on their behalf. * Al-Hor Al-Amili states in Wasa’el Al-Shia Book: Ibrahim bin Shoeib reported that he said to Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh): “My father grew very old and weak. * Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: Jaber reported that a man said to Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh): “I have parents who are opposers?” The Imam (Pbuh) said: “Be righteous to them as you are righteous to our followers of Muslims.” [19]

To me is the final fate}. The Imam (Pbuh) said: “The parents whom Allah obligated to be thanked are the parents who gave birth to knowledge and gave judgment for heritage and they are ones whom people are ordered to obey. Then Allah said {To me is the fate}. The final fate is in the hands of Allah and the proof that shows that are the parents. Then Allah meant Hantama and his companion according to general meaning and individual when He said {If they compel you to make me a peer} meaning making a peer in the custody and obeying other than whom you were ordered to obey, {Don’t obey them} and don’t listen to them. Then Allah talked about the parents and said {be good to them in Donia} meaning: teach people about their virtues and call unto people to follow their way as in this saying of Allah {Follow the way of he who came to me. To me is your return}. To Allah then to us. So fear Allah and don’t disobey the parents for their contentment is Allah’s contentment and their rage is Allah’s rage.” [20]

* Al-Hor Al-Amili states in Wasa’el Al-Shia Book: Jaber reported from Imam Abou Abdellah Al-Sadiq (Pbuh) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I’m want to fight (Jihad) I feel very active.” He (Pbuhp) said: “So fight in the cause of Allah, for if you were killed you shall remain alive with Allah, if you die you will be rewarded by Allah and if you come back you become free of sins as when you were born.” He said: “O Messenger of Allah, I have parents that say that are relieved with my presence and they hate it if I left.” He (Pbuhp) said: “Then stay with them. I swear to the one who owns my soul, relieving their soul for one day and night is better than Jihad for one year.” [24]

* Ali bin Babawaih states in Fokoh Al-Rida Book: “You have to obey the father and be good, humble, and submissive to him. You have to respect him and honor him and lower your voice in front of him. The father is the origin and the son is the branch. If it hadn’t been for the father, the child wouldn’t have existed by the power of Allah. Sacrifice your money, honor and soul for their sake.” “You and your money belong to your father. He owns the soul and the money. Be righteous to them by the utmost righteousness in Donia and after death by praying for them and asking Allah to be merciful to them.” [25]

* Tafseer Al-Imam Al-Askari Book: Imam Ali Bin Mohammad (Pbuh) said: “Glorifying Allah includes regarding your parents Mohammad and Ali (Pbut) as more important than your biological parents. Underestimating the glory of Allah includes regarding your biological parents as more important than your parents Mohammad and Ali (Pbut).” [26]

* Tafseer Al-Imam Al-Askari (Pbuh) Book: Al-Hassan Bin Ali (Pbuh) said: “ You have to be righteous to your religious parents Mohammad and Ali even if that makes you not righteous to your biological parents. Never be unrighteous to your religious parents for the sake of being righteous to your biological parents. Thanking your religious parents Mohammad and Ali benefits you more than thanking your biological parents. When you religious parents thank you –at least by looking at you- all your sins are remitted even if it was filling what it between the land and the throne. But if your biological parents thank you while you have wasted your religious parents, nothing ever benefits you.” [27]
