The Grandest Sins

* Al-Sheikh Al-Kulaini states in Al-Kafi Book: It was reported from Abdel-Azeem Al-Hassani from Imam Abou Jaa’far (Pbuh) from his father from his grandfather Imam Moussa Bin Jaa’far (Pbuh) that he said: “Amrou came in to Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh). After saluting the Imam, he recited this verse {Those who avoid the grandest of sins and obscenities} and stopped. The Imam (Pbuh) said: “Why did you stop?” He said: “I would like to know the grandest of sins from the book of Allah.” the Imam (Pbuh) said: “Yes O Amrou, the grandest of the grandest of sins is making Allah a partner. Allah says {Allah forbids him to go to heaven, he who makes a partner for Allah}. Then there is despairing from the soul of Allah because Allah says {None despairs from the soul of Allah but the infidels}. Then there is feeling safe from the plans of Allah because Allah said {None feels safe from the plan of Allah but the people who are to lose}. Then there is misbehavior to parents because Allah made the ill-mannered child a miserable tyrant. Killing the soul that Allah forbade to be killed but with right because Allah says {His punishment is Hell to abide eternally in it}. Accusing a married woman with fornication because Allah says {They are damned in Donia and The Hereafter and they will suffer from a painful torment}.  Consuming the money of orphans because Allah says {They are consuming fire into their inner-sides and they will suffer from a blazing fire}. Escaping war because Allah says {He who turns his back on them on such day unless it be in a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own)- he draws on himself the wrath of Allah. His haven is Hell and the worst of fate}. Consuming interest because Allah said {Those who consume interest can’t stand but like he who stands after being beaten by demons}. Magic because Allah said{ And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter}. Fornication because Allah said { and any that does this (not only) meets punishment. (But) the Penalty on the Day of Judgment will be doubled to him, and he will dwell therein in ignominy}. False swearing because Allah said {Those who buy by the divine covenant and by swearing cheap prices, shall see no happiness in the hereafter}. Robbing because Allah said {He who robs will bring with him what he robbed on Resurrection Day}. Not paying obligated Zakat because Allah says {by which their foreheads, sides and backs will be burned}. False testimonies and concealing testimonies because Allah said: {for whoever conceals it, His heart is tainted with sin}. Drinking intoxicants as Allah prohibited worshiping idols, quitting prayer on purpose or any obligatory worship act because the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: “He who quits praying deliberately, disowns Allah and the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp).” Breaking the covenant and cutting off relatives because Allah says {Damnation is to those and to them is the worst of homes}” Then Amrou left crying and saying: “He is doomed he who states his own opinion and place himself at a level next to your level of virtue and knowledge.” [1]

* Mohammad bin Masoud Al-Ayashi states in his Tafseer Book: It was reported from Ma’ath bin Katheer from Imam Abou Abdellah (Pbuh) that he said: “O Ma’ath, the grandest sins are seven that was made against us. The grandest one is polytheism, killing whom Allah forbade to kill, misbehavior to parents, slandering married women, consuming the money of orphans, escaping war, denying our rights Ahlul-Bayt. As for polytheism. It is that Allah said what he said about us and so did the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) but they belied Allah and belied His Messenger. As for killing whom Allah forbade to kill. They killed Al-Hussein Bin Ali (Pbuh) and his companions. As for misbehavior to parents, Allah said in his book {The Prophet is more worthy to the believers than their selves, spouses and mothers}. He is their father. So their misbehavior to the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) was through his descendents and household. As for slandering women, they slandered Fatima (Pbuh) on their platforms. As for consuming the money of orphans, they took our share that was stated for us in the book of Allah. As for escaping war, they pledged their loyalty willingly to Ameer Elmo’mineen (Pbuh) but then they escaped and failed him. As for denying our rights, this is a matter that they don’t deny.” [2]
