General Worship Acts in Sha’ban Month

It is narrated from Isma'il ibn Abi Ziyad, from Abu Abdullah (Pbuh), who said: The Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: "Increase your sending of blessings upon your Prophet and his progeny during Sha‘ban." He continued, "The month of Sha‘ban is called the Month of Intercession because your Messenger will intercede for everyone who sends blessings upon him during this month."

From Muhammad ibn Abi Hamzah, narrated from Abu Abdullah (Pbuh): *"Whoever says every day during Sha‘ban seventy times: 'I seek forgiveness from Allah, there is no deity but Him, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, the Living, the Sustainer, and I turn to Him in repentance,' will be written among those in the Clear Horizon." He was asked: "What is the Clear Horizon?" He (Pbuh) replied: "It is a plane beneath the Throne, containing rivers flowing with cups as numerous as the stars."

Fadael Al-Ashhor Al-Thalatha (The Virtues of the Three Months) p.56

Imam Al-Ridha (Pbuh) said: "Whoever seeks Allah’s forgiveness seventy times in Sha‘ban, Allah will forgive their sins, even if they are as numerous as the stars."

Al-Amali by Al-Sadouq p.24

Imam Al-Ridha (Pbuh) said: "Whoever says every day during Sha‘ban seventy times: 'I seek Allah’s forgiveness and ask for repentance,' Allah will write for them Absolution from the Fire, a pass across the Sirat [bridge], and entry into the eternal abode."

Al-Amali by Al-Sadouq p.628

Ibrahim ibn Maymun said: Imam (Pbuh) said: "Fasting in Sha‘ban atones for major sins. Even if a person were afflicted with shedding unlawful blood, if they fasted for some days of this month and repented, I would hope for their forgiveness." I asked him: "What is the best supplication in this month?" Imam (Pbuh) replied: "Seeking forgiveness. Whoever seeks forgiveness every day of Sha‘ban seventy times, it is as if they sought forgiveness seventy thousand times in other months." I said: "How should I say it?" Imam (Pbuh) replied: "Say: ‘I seek forgiveness from Allah and ask for repentance.’"

Imam Al-Sadiq (Pbuh) said: "Whoever gives charity in Sha‘ban, Allah, Glorious and Mighty, will nurture it for them just as one of you nurtures a young camel, until it meets them on the Day of Resurrection as large as Mount Uhud."

Al-Amali by Al-Sadouq p.628

Abbas ibn Hilal said: Imam Al-Ridha (Pbuh) said: "Whoever fasts one day in Sha‘ban, seeking the reward of Allah, will enter Paradise. Whoever seeks Allah's forgiveness seventy times daily in Sha‘ban will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment in the company of the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) and will be granted honor from Allah. Whoever gives charity in Sha‘ban, even if it is only half a date, Allah will forbid their body from the Fire. Whoever fasts three days in Sha‘ban and connects it with fasting during Ramadan, Allah will record for them the reward of fasting two consecutive months."

The Messenger of Allah (Pbuh) said: "Whoever says thousand times during Sha‘ban: 'There is no deity but Allah. We worship none but Him, devoting the religion sincerely to Him, even if the polytheists dislike it,' Allah will write for them the reward of thousand years of worship, erase the sins of thousand years, and resurrect them from their grave on the Day of Judgment with a face shining like the full moon. They will be recorded as a truthful person in the sight of Allah."

Amir Al-Mu'mineen (Pbuh) said: The Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) said: *"Whoever recites Surat Al-Fatihah, Ayat Al-Kursi, {Say: O disbelievers}, {Say: He is Allah, the One}, {Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind}, and {Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak} three times each, every day and night during Rajab, Sha‘ban, and Ramadan, and then says: 'Glory be to Allah, all praise is due to Allah, there is no deity but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no might or power except with Allah, the Most High,' three times, and sends blessings upon the Prophet and his household three times, saying: 'O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the household of Muhammad, and upon every angel and prophet,' three times, and then says: 'O Allah, forgive the believing men and women,' three times, and says: 'I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance,' four hundred times."

The Prophet (Pbuhp) then said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, whoever recites these surahs and performs all these actions throughout the three months and their nights, nothing will be withheld from them. Even if their sins are as numerous as the drops of rain, the leaves of the trees, and the foam of the sea, Allah will forgive them. On the Day of Eid al-Fitr, a caller will proclaim: 'O My servant, you are truly My ally, truly, truly. Because of your honor with Me, for every letter you recited, you will have the right of intercession for your brothers and sisters.' The Messenger of Allah (Pbuh) continued: 'By the One Who sent me with the truth as a Prophet, whoever recites these surahs and performs these actions during these three months and their nights, even once in their lifetime, Allah will grant them seventy thousand good deeds for every letter they recited. Each good deed will be heavier in Allah's sight than the mountains of the world. Allah will fulfill seven hundred needs for them at the time of their death, seven hundred needs in their grave, and seven hundred needs at their resurrection. The same reward will be granted at the dispersal of the records, at the scale, and at the crossing of the bridge (Sirat). Allah will shade them under the shade of His Throne, grant them an easy reckoning, and seventy thousand angels will accompany them to Paradise. Allah will say: "Take this reward for what you have done in these months." They will be taken to Paradise, where Allah has prepared for them what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and what has never crossed the heart of any human being.'"

It is narrated from Abbas ibn Mujahid, from his father, who said: Ali ibn Al-Husayn (Pbuh) used to supplicate at every noontime during the days of Sha‘ban and on the night of its middle. He would invoke blessings upon the Prophet (Pbuhp) with the following supplication: "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, the tree of prophethood, the place of the message, the meeting place of angels, the mine of knowledge, and the people of divine revelation. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, the flowing ark in the overwhelming depths; whoever boards it is secure, and whoever forsakes it is drowned. Whoever goes ahead of them is separated, whoever lags behind them perishes, and whoever remains attached to them reaches. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, the strong fortress, the relief for the distressed and humbled, the refuge for the fleeing, and the protection for those who seek safety. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, blessings abundant, pleasing to them, and fulfilling the rights of Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, by Your power and strength, O Lord of the worlds.

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, the pure, the righteous, the chosen, whose rights You have made obligatory, and whose obedience and allegiance You have commanded. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the household of Muhammad, and fill my heart with obedience to You, do not disgrace me through disobedience to You, and provide me with the ability to help those to whom You have restricted sustenance from what You have expanded upon me through Your bounty, and spread upon me through Your justice, and given me life under Your shade. This is the month of Your Prophet, the master of Your messengers, Sha‘ban, which You have surrounded with Your mercy and pleasure. In this month, the Messenger of Allah (Pbuhp) would dedicate himself to fasting and standing in prayer during its nights and days, seeking Your honor and reverence for it until he passed to the abode of eternity. O Allah, help us to follow his Sunnah (Norms) in it and attain his intercession through it. O Allah, make him an intercessor for me, whose intercession is accepted, and a clear path to You. Make me his follower until I meet You on the Day of Resurrection, pleased with me and forgiving of my sins. Grant me Your mercy and pleasure, settle me in the abode of stability, and the dwelling of the righteous.”

The Invokation of Amir Al-Mu'mineen Ali ibn Abi Talib (Pbuh) and the Imams from his progeny (Pbut), which they recited during the Month of Sha'ban.

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad. Hear my supplication when I call upon You, and listen to my cry when I cry out to You. Turn towards me when I invoke You, for I have fled to You and stand humbly before You, pleading with You, hoping for the reward that is with You. You know what is within my soul, You are aware of my needs, and You know the secrets of my innermost thoughts. Nothing concerning my life, my end, or my final resting place is hidden from You. You know what I will begin with in my speech, what I will articulate in my requests, and what I hope for as my ultimate outcome. Your decrees regarding me have unfolded, O my Master, encompassing what will occur to me until the end of my life—be it in my private matters or my public ones. In Your hand, not in the hand of anyone else, lies the increase or decrease in my provisions, my benefit or harm. O my God, if You were to deprive me, who would provide for me? And if You were to forsake me, who would support me? I seek refuge in You, my God, from Your wrath and the descent of Your anger. O my God, even if I am unworthy of Your mercy, You are worthy of extending Your vast bounty to me. O my God, it is as though I stand before You, and my trust in You has overshadowed me, and You have said (and acted) in accordance with what befits You, enveloping me with Your pardon. O my God, if You forgive me, then who is more deserving of that than You? And if my appointed time is near and my deeds have not drawn me closer to You, I have made the admission of my sins a means of seeking Your closeness. O my God, I have wronged myself by neglecting its care. Woe to it if You do not forgive it! O my God, Your goodness has remained with me throughout my life, so do not cut it off from me at my death. O my God, how can I despair of Your kind consideration after my death, when You have shown me nothing but beauty during my life? O my God, take charge of my affair in the way that befits You.

And turn to me with Your grace, as You do for a sinner overwhelmed by ignorance. O my God, You have concealed my sins in this world, and I am in greater need of their concealment from You in the Hereafter. O my God, You have been kind to me by not revealing them to any of Your righteous servants, so do not disgrace me on the Day of Resurrection in front of all witnesses. O my God, Your generosity has expanded my hope, and Your forgiveness exceeds my deeds. O my God, bring joy to me with Your meeting on the Day when You judge between Your servants. O my God, my plea for forgiveness to You is the plea of one who cannot do without having his excuse accepted. So accept my excuse, O most noble of those to whom the wrongdoers offer their apologies. O my God, do not reject my need, do not disappoint my hope, and do not cut off my expectation and reliance upon You. O my God, if You had intended to disgrace me, You would not have guided me; and if You had intended to expose me, You would not have shielded me. O my God, I do not believe You would deny me a need for which I have spent my life in pursuit of from You. O my God, so all praise is Yours forever and ever, constant and eternal, increasing and never ending, as You love and are pleased with. O my God, if You take me to account for my sins, I will take You to account for Your forgiveness. And if You take me to account for my transgressions, I will take You to account for Your pardon. And if You admit me to the Fire, I will inform its inhabitants that I love You. O my God, if my deeds are insignificant in comparison to obedience to You, my hope in Your mercy is vast. O my God, how can I return from You empty-handed and disappointed, when my good expectation of Your generosity has been that You will return me saved and enveloped in mercy?

O my God, I have spent my life in the recklessness of heedlessness toward You, and I have worn out my youth in the intoxication of distancing myself from You. O my God, I did not awaken during the days of my delusion with You, nor when I relied upon the path of Your displeasure. O my God, here I am, Your servant, the son of Your servant, standing before You, seeking nearness to You through Your generosity. O my God, I am a servant repenting to You, distancing myself from what I used to confront You with in terms of my lack of shame under Your gaze. I seek Your pardon because forgiveness is a trait of Your generosity. O my God, I lacked the power to turn away from disobeying You except in the moment You awakened me to Your love. As You willed me to be, I became, and I thank You for including me in Your generosity and purifying my heart from the filth of heedlessness of You. O my God, look upon me as You look upon the one You have called, and he answered You; the one You employed with Your assistance, and he obeyed You. O the One who is near, not distant from the one who is deluded by Him; O the Generous One who does not withhold from the one who hopes for His reward, O my God, grant me a heart that draws closer to You out of longing, a tongue that raises his sincerity to You, and a gaze that is brought nearer to You through its truthfulness. O my God, whoever recognizes You is never unknown, whoever seeks refuge in You is never forsaken, and whoever You turn toward is never disfavored. O my God, whoever follows Your guidance is truly illuminated, and whoever seeks protection in You is surely sheltered. Here I am, seeking refuge in You, O my God, so do not disappoint my hope in Your mercy, and do not veil me from Your compassion.

O my God, establish me among those of Your guardians who aspire to increase in love for You. O my God, inspire me with passionate devotion to Your remembrance, so that it leads me to a continuous remembrance of You. Direct my determination to the delight of attaining success through Your names and the sanctity of Your majesty. O my God, by Your right over Yourself, I implore You to unite me with the station of those devoted to Your obedience and the righteous abode of Your pleasure, for I have no power to ward off harm from myself nor the ability to bring about its benefit. O my God, I am Your weak, sinful servant and Your repentant dependent. Do not make me among those from whom You turn away Your face, nor among those whose heedlessness veils them from Your pardon. O my God, grant me complete detachment toward You, and illuminate the vision of our hearts with the light of beholding You, so that the insights of our hearts may pierce through the veils of light and reach the source of Your majesty, and our souls become suspended in the glory of Your holiness. O my God, make me among those whom You call, and they respond to You; those whom You observe, and they are overwhelmed by Your majesty; those whom You whisper to in secret, and they act openly for You. O my God, I have not allowed the despair of hopelessness to dominate my good opinion of You.

And my hope in Your beautiful generosity has not been severed. O my God, if my sins have caused me to fall from Your grace, then pardon me by virtue of my trust in You. O my God, if my transgressions have distanced me from the noble kindness of Your mercy, then certainty has awakened me to the generosity of Your compassion. O my God, if heedlessness has lulled me into neglecting preparation for meeting You, then knowledge of Your abundant blessings has awakened me. O my God, if the greatness of Your punishment calls me to the fire, the magnitude of Your reward invites me to paradise. O my God, to You I plead, to You I raise my voice, and to You I turn in desire. I ask You to send blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, and to make me among those who continuously remember You, never break Your covenant, never neglect gratitude toward You, and never belittle Your commands. O my God, unite me with the radiant light of Your glorious majesty, so that I may know You, turn away from all else, and remain in awe and vigilance before You. O Lord of majesty and honor, and may Allah send blessings upon Muhammad, His Messenger, and his pure household, and grant them abundant peace and salutations.
